You don't need expensive equipment to make a delicious smoothie. For years, I used a Ninja blender for all my homemade smoothies. Don't get me wrong—I love a Vitamix, and for certain recipes, I won't use anything else.
To master the perfect at-home consistency, start with what I call the “layering effect.” When I blend, I follow a specific order: first liquids, then nut butters, superfood powders, fresh greens, frozen fruit, ice, and finally protein powders. Layering your ingredients this way helps everything blend evenly and creates a smooth, creamy texture that keeps you coming back for more sips.
Protein Power Superfood Smoothie
Enjoy a fresh twist on the classic strawberry-banana smoothie that you’re sure to love!
Ingredients
8 oz of unsweetened almond milk (or any plant-based alternative), may need more
1 cup of organic frozen strawberries
1 frozen banana
1 scoop of vanilla plant-based protein
2 tbsp of almond butter
dash of cinnamon
1 tsp of camu camu powder (optional superfood powder)
½ cup ice
Directions
In your blender jar, add the ingredients in the following order: almond milk, nut butter, camu camu powder, cinnamon, strawberries, banana, ice, and finally protein powder.
Begin blending. If the smoothie is too thick, stop, add a bit more almond milk, then continue blending until it reaches the desired consistency.
Blend until the smoothie is smooth but free of air bubbles; bubbles usually mean it’s been over-blended and will be too runny. If this happens, add a few more frozen strawberries or ice cubes to bring it back to the proper consistency.
This strawberry banana superfood smoothie is not only delicious but also packed with nutrients, making it perfect for a quick breakfast or post-workout recovery. Try experimenting with different plant-based proteins to find the one that best suits your taste, as each will slightly change the smoothie’s flavor. You can also swap the protein powder for other protein sources, like hemp seeds. Enjoy!
